The Conference of the Birds is a celebrated Sufi story about birds who go in search of their king. Written in the 12th century by the Persian poet Farid ud-Din Attar, this epic poem (4500 lines) is, on one level, an allegory of the spiritual quest for enlightenment. It can also be read as a manual on Sufi psychology and mysticism. In 2012 I mounted a full scale theatrical production of “Birds” based on my own adaptation in prose form. This recording is my reading of the 11 chapters of that piece. CLICK TO PLAY
